December 26, 2014...Fishing report on Lake Texoma, with CrossCreek Guide Service, with J D Dorsey, Charter Captain, Striper Guide, ....blah, blah, blah. Forget it! I am on vacation. It Christmas for Gods sake.....Its just more of the same as a guide although this one, vacations from the December 20, to January , 2015. Happy New Year. Now after that, I am your man. I go after big fish, umbrella rigs, trolling, providing everything, and you show up at daylight, and we are set. If you review my website, or heard about me from others, I am all business when it comes to showing you and your family a good time, with lots of big fish. Last year I had the best year of my 20 years, which is really an indication of the fish population, and Gods blessings. Not to mention a background of knowing the lake from one end to the other, two charter boats, with other guide friends available if necesssary for big trips. My fishing equipment is all pratically new, and I keep my boats clean, and in great running shape. I am known from one end of the lake to the other, and have a following of customers, whereas I fish, 170 trips a year, with additional trips I donate to boys and girls clubs, wounded warriors, churchs, habitat for humanity, etc., trying to raise money for those that need it. I have always been a hard worker with my business, and at my age it is a way of keeping in condition. My website is self explanatory, I require a deposit, which will be deducted from final cost which is conputed according to the number of customers on the trip. I donate enough to charity, that I find I must charge for young kids on the boat, and regardless, its memories for them moreso than a fishing event. I have had several days where big fish will not fit in the huge cooler, but with a two big fish limit per person, you could end up with only big fish, not dinks, as I remind you, I could care less about little fish, as most of my customers want the biggest fish they can find, thats my desire also. "Oh for those who see some small fish in some of the picture, although I target big fish, I am not adverse to keeping some of the smaller fish,as they are good eating, and to keep or throw back, is your decision." 86 pounds with 5 fish has been the big haul of last year so lets see who can get that record big one, or biggest of 5 in a day. I fish 4-6 hours, no more but can assure you, you will be ready with the work we do to get the big ones in, and a little rest. I also have some fishing in the slips (big cat fish) after we get in, keeping you busy while I clean and "red meat" the fishy taste out of the filets, bagging your fish for the trips home. I do morning trips, as well as evening trips around 3, so plenty of time to get a slot with me, to have the time of your life on Beautiful Lake Texoma. Have a great New Year, and hope to hear from you soon....."JD

November 25, 2015...Man oh Man, where does the time go! God is good, as I have had the best year, ever, with big fish every trip. If I have said it once, I say it every day. I target big fish only, no little fish for me! I dare to say, I have not disappointed anyone this year, maybe one trip, where it was extremely cold, and windy. I try to reschedule days like that, but some people can not reschedule so I do the best I can. Just think in your mind, a day with a five fish best of 66 pounds! Thats great for Texoma. I have a bunch of pictures of each trip, and can almost guarantee you if it is relative good weather, no high winds, I will put you on some of the biggest fish from Lake Texoma you have ever seen. I have two boats, with my wife fishing, in between her College courses, so get in touch with me, I AM PUMPED!. Today was an ideal day, little cold in the early mornings as I leave the dock at between 6:30 and 7:00am. My 22 foot offshore Triton has plenty of room, and I will even throw in a porty potty for the ladies if they request it. I love kids, but they pay the same, not being mean, but I build memories for them, so they tell their friends what a great time it had been. My boats are in a boathouse, where I clean and bag your fish, while you sit around comfortably, or fish for the giant catfish in my slip. Come see JoLean and I, and make this a trip to remember on beautiful Lake Texoma....Hope to see you soon...."JD"

October 19, 2014...Gosh, looked at my website, after getting a little time off from fishing, and last report showed July. What a roller coaster ride year, my best for big fish, in many years. I am still using all artificial, umbrella rigs, 9 jigs, trolling, targeting only larger fish. If I posted all the fish pictures of my past trips since July, I am not sure I would have space to carry it all on the computer and website. I am now into the fall, with a change in seasons again, so it is relocating to spots where the big fish hang, which does require "back track strategy", from where the fish have been heading to one end of the lake, water starts cooling, so fish head back to the other end of the lake, preparing for the winter. To make a long story short, yesterday, our five biggest fish, weighed 59 pounds, with the biggest at 18.6 pounds. Targeting big fish, there is no way we get our 10 fish limit per person, too much releasing big fish, as only two over twenty inches per person. Lots running time right now hitting the ledges where the big fish hang, but its all in having fun on the water at the best lake anywhere around this area. I turned 73 this month, and although I am feeling my age, the work keeps me fit, as I am a very active person. My business is striving, and not sure it is my good looks, or the fact I have a nice offshore boat, plenty of knowledge of the lake after 22 years guiding, or the testimony from past customers. My wife who also guides some, say it is because she maintains my website, so who am I to argue cause at my age I have learned something about women. God, I have made some great friends while guiding, all who have become family. I give all my success to the Lord, as I know I am not the one that controls the outcome of each trip. With the many things going on in this ole world, I am sure glad there is fishing to keep things off the mind. JD

July 31, 2014...The entire last couple months have gone by, and with a lot of catching, with a great deal of fun in fishing Lake Texoma. I have hardly had a days off these last couple months, and with the recent rains, the weather is cooler, and my trips are getting easier to handle. I have had two boats out several times recently, with my wife, making a great guide, and even out fishing me on an occasion or two. The fall seems to be upon us, and I am glad to see it, as it sure was hot this summer. I have had lots of trips where we caught lots of big fish, having to return so many, and not getting a limit. I doubt that I have had one trip where everyone did not like our method of trolling with umbrella rigs. It has been very productive, and I have not had to fish with bait one time this year. Fall hopefully will be as busy as the first of the year, and I expect to be doing a lot of the same and catching a lot of fish. My son has painted my boat slip, and it looks attractive, and a nice place to sit after a trip, and fish for some catfish, while I clean our catch of the day. I only had one day when the fish did not really bite that well, but that is pretty good with over a hundred trips on the water. Bet there are not many guides who can boast of that success rate. Any way give us a try, and as always, book well enough ahead to get that day you want, and put a deposit on it, to hold it. Fall should be ideal, and I imagine with the kids going back to school, weekends will all be booked up before long. I provide all the fishing equipment, so you just bring a small cooler with drinks, and get your Texoma license, which you can get an any sports store for $12. Lots of places to stay locally, or you can drive in if you are close. "JD"

June 23, 2014...May and June has been very similar in that fishing has been great. Lots of large fish, from 8, to 15 pound fish. This sometimes cost us having to release some big fish, because of the two over 20 inches fish, per customer. Numerous times we will not get a limit, but on the other hand, also cannot hardly close the cooler, so many fish. I have been busy almost 5 days a week, always on the weekends, so get a head start and get that trip booked now. The GPS coordinate for Little Mineral Resort, is 300 little mineral resort, Pottsboro, Tx 75076. My boats are in boathouse 14, and we are leaving between 5:30 and 6, each morning. Bring plenty of liquids, sun screen, but everything fishing wise is provided. "JD"

May 22, 2014...Got a breather so I can write an update fishing report. Thanks to all the people who have booked trips, keeping me busy, but also acquainted with whereabouts of the fish. I am still long lining with rigs, and in almost two months, only been humbled by bait fishermen, once. I must admit, I really do not keep up with what they do, mostly doing what I find, fun. Has to happened sometimes. I have noticed other guides beginning to do some long lining, which I have found very enjoyable and productive. My groups have been bringing in limits of fish, and some fish 20 lbs to 25 lbs., and box fish, which have gotten a little skinny as they have spawned. I am usually on the water anywhere from 3 to 6 hours, depending on number of people on the trip. I am leaving around 6am, from my boat slip and back in about 4 hours. My wife who is an excellent guide is off, having just had knee surgery, but I welcome her back this weekend. I want to warn customers to bring plenty of sun screen as the days are getting hot, and I know I need it more than anyone, being it almost every day. I have one of the best guide services around, assisted by one of the greatest woman around, and all I can say is God is Great. Long lining is trolling, using artificial rigs, resembling a school of bait, and very much fun. Regardless how many on a trip, everyone gets in on the action, as we have a fish, or 2-3 fish in one catch. Someone grabs the nets, takes off the fish, and another opens the cooler, and on we go for another round of catching. A limit of 10 fish per person is taking a little longer, since we lost all our shad, but it is steady, with plenty to keep us busy, as we spend a great time CATCHING STRIPERS ON LAKE TEXOMA. See you on the water......JD and JoD.

May 4, 2014...The fishing each day still makes me marvel at this lake, and the size/number of stripers. I have limited each day with the rigs I am using, and my customers are catching fish in the 8, 10, 12, 15, pounds each day. The last couple trips, we pulled two fish, over 24 pounds, and one 19.07 pounds. The 24's went back, but the 19 was taken home for mounting by a taxidermist. A treasure of a life time. I feel I am on top of my game, and doing my job in getting limits for my customers, as well as getting big fish for them to experience the strength of these amazing fish. I think I can provide everything in the way of fishing for, and catching stripers Not to forget, the experience of a life time and being with friends. The weather has been a little windy, still a little chilly in the mornings, as I leave the dock around 6am, but a great start on a great lake. My weekends are filling up, but have several days in the week to schedule your fishing trip. "JD"

April 26, 2014...I often wonder when someone says the fishing is good, some people do not catch on. Why do I sometimes have a bad day, as customers come when they want to, not when I tell them the fishing is Great! It is nice now outside, water temp about the perfect condition, and fish are hitting, biggest boxes of fish I have had in some time, with a few days open, and I want fishermen. I have caught nice fish for at least the past two weeks, and some think it is not time to come, wrong. You can have the time of your life, if you know how to set the hook, and reel. Yes I am long lining, but times now are much like marlin fishing, so I will just let you look at the recent pictures for verification. Hope to see you soon. "JD"

April 18, 2014...As you may know or not know my wife does my fishing report, guides with me, cooks, cleans, makes me take my meds, and handles the money. All seems fair except the last. I do the rest. I do know my expenses are high, so I had to raise my prices some, but still competitive. Years ago, there was this tactic that we guides used, when bait was lean, and we had to catch fish. It was the umbrella rig. I have since started using this tactic, and it has proved a life saver for catching fish. Our lake has very little shad, therefore my reason to fish all artificial, and the umbrella rig. I can fish up to four people using this method, with one assisting me in netting the big fish, then swapping out until we get our limit. Just yesterday I got my first limit, because we were throwing big fish back, as you can only have 2 over twenty inches per person. Now we are catching some smaller fish to finish out the limit. I use Captain Macks rigs, which are high quality, and get results. If a time comes when these do not work, I will change but now and I expect them it to work whenever. If you dont like to troll, do not use me, as I use every method that works to catch fish. If bait comes back, I might change, but their coming back this year is doubtful. All weekends are practically gone, but week days better, less crowds, more room. Anyway see ya on the water, and good fishing....."JD"

April 12, 2014...Well, I was waiting for this date and report, as we cleaned house today on Lake Texoma, as well as yesterday. We are catching big fish, biggest today was 13.5 pounds, with lots of fish a little under this. My wife JoLean and I, were on a five boat trip I booked with my regular group, every year, and we had a ball. My boat won the big fish, but JoLean was just a pound under mine. My customers took lots of pictures and videos which they will send to me soon. I suggest if you are ready to get out of the house, NOW is the time to book that trip. I have some dates still left in April, very few weekends in May, but JoLean can handle my overflow as we fish right together and she is a crackerjack guide. The water temp is around 60 degrees and the usual time that the fish turn on and feed. Because of the recent cold spells, the fish have not spawned, and are fat, and big fighters.....Can't say enough about our success, so hurry and call, I am pumped......"JD"

April 7, 2014...I will just tell you one thing, and you can take it to the bank. If you read all the reports about the great fishing, you better think again. If you look at the extreme weather we are having, water temps still in the 50s, wind and rain, with unpredictable conditions, how could any fish be hungry. We have lost our bait fish, gizzard and thread fins because of the cold water, although there are days when shiners catch fish, but those days are limited right now. As I have stated in previous reports, we are about two weeks behind on the great fishing. I believe this year will see lots more lure fishing, bigger fish, a 25 pound caught recently, and different methods required, to get the fish to bite. Right now expect big fish, but not every day you can get a limit of 10 fish per person. Now you can get a limit some days, more work than usual for this great lake, so the challenge is catching, more than just fishing. I will be using lures, trolling, down rigging, everything short of dynamite. The cost for all this is extreme also, buying lures, line, bait, more cost for the gas I have to use to run further or troll, so with my cost will be reflected in the cost of a trip. I still charge less than most, but even a tip will help under the conditions. I do not want to scare you off, but take this weekend for instance, me and my wonderful wife fished 6 people. Temperatures in the 40s, rain, wind, but a determination to catch something. No picnic for sure, but that is fishing. As you are aware I can not control these factors,my wife and I are excellent guides, not Gods. My 22 foot Triton, and my wife's 20 foot Falcon, are what it takes to provide transportation, we are located in boathouse 14 at Little Mineral Resort, where we clean and bag your fish, so that along with our determination/dedication is the best we can offer as guides. We might have to run a long ways to find the fish, schooled, it might not be convenient to the marina, so dress according to the weather, I am tired of giving up my coat to keep someone warm, but this will soon end if the warm weather ever gets here. Here is this weekends best shot. Have I said too much, scared you off, or are you a real fisherman. Plan on a great outing, and let the fish biting, be the bonus. With these conditions, your chances are better at this lake than to run off somewhere else, and miss out on the hundred of 12-20 pound stripers in this lake. "JD"

March 18, 2014...Well as I had expected , March has been cold, windy but good, mainly for big fish, some 15-20 fish a trip, and biggest between 14-15 lbs. March 17, after a wind and cold 16th, was not good, unless you consider 3 fish, and missing a big one at the boat. Seems it was the same for everyone. I am hoping for some warm weather as the water temp is about 48-49 degrees, and I like it around 60 degrees. I am still booking trips fast, even with the inclement weather and my fishing posts. Bait is hard to find, unless you want to run about 25 miles to get it. Things will change, as it usually does, and we will all be happy with lots of fish, and limits on most days. Time to book those trips, get out of the house for all those who have been suffering from cabin fever like I have during Jan and Feb. I am letting those people who hit my website, then email me about the price for a half day, my fees are posted, and I dont give discounts, for children, or anyone, or do half day half price trips. My trips are 5 hours at the most, and if we get a limit before that, we go in, as can not take any more fish than the 10 fish per person limit. I work hard to get you your limit, red meat, fillet your fish, and bag them. I take you right to the fish, and if for unknown reason they wont bite, nothing I can do about it. Thats fishing. I have a 98% success rate, catching limits, but if I make a mistake and dont get fish because of something I did, then I might make you an offer to refish. I am confident enough to make that offer with my experience of 20 years guiding on Texoma, and my success rate. Anyway hope to hear from you soon, and spend a great day fishing on beautiful Lake Texoma......."JD"

February 25, 2014...It seems lately I have been giving a weather report rather than a fishing report. I do apologize for that but to me it has been cold, and glad I have not fished that much. I had expected warmer weather, which is the usual at this time, but I suspect that is some couple weeks away. What I am doing right now is some artificial, such as deadsticking, and tossing rubber, but my main interest is to restock my equipment, preparing for whatever it might take to get my customers the most, and biggest fish, on every trip. Spring Break the second and third week of March is near, and I have lots of open dates, as seems no one wants to even book anything, while they are cold. Does there seem to be a pattern here, exactly. The only problem with that is the early bird gets the worm, or in my case the better days. The importance of getting dates set, is to insure, the date you want naturally, but also to get reservations set for lodging, if you stay overnight. Weekends always book up fast, and weekdays are sometimes pretty plentiful. My 22' Triton is ample room for 6, but my 20' falcon I limit to 3 or 4 at the most. My wife JoLean guides out of the falcon boat, and do not be fooled, she is a lot better guide than most men out there. She will be out of service for a few weeks with knee surgery, and her son, will fill in, most probably. He is very handsom, bench presses 400 pounds, but no he cant outfish me or her, but will some day. He loves fishing, and although having a regular job, will be assisting now and then. A word of advice for those cute little girls, I book my boat before I do his. Next month, since we lost a lot of live bait from the lake, (because of real cold water) I may have to resort to trolling or long lining, which produces large fish. As it gets warmer, I will go to live bait, with less big fish, but mostly all times, get a limit. Make no mistake about it, I will work to get you the biggest fish, and a limit, each time I go out, regardless of conditions. The main thing right now is to get the guide you want, and get those dates booked to insure accommodations, and the right guide for your charter. I have done this for over twenty years, and always work hard to keep you entertained and catch a lot of fish. This lake is a fountain, filled with fish, for family, oh sorry, I always wanted to be a poet. Call now and ask for JD or JoD. We guarantee you a wonderful time, and catching fish is the bonus......."JD

January 25, 2014...Well Happy New Year to everyone. After my last fishing report, I felt I needed to update things going on here at Lake Texoma. We have had lots of cold weather, as I am sure you have experienced the same unless you are a good distance from this area. I have not done a lot of fishing, mainly because of high winds and real cold conditions. I can tell you one thing, there is some good fish being brought in, but this is not constant, on a daily basis. If you are in the location where the fish are hitting, you can bring in some huge fish, but it is unlikely that you will get a limit. It is hard to figure out what the fish want, so I have to take several different selections, and use what color/method they are wanting. There is hardly any bait fishing going on, as the fish are too selective, sluggish, and have to be lured into feeding, but the results are amazing. If things go as expected, unless warming is higher than expected, this will continue into February to mid March. Spring break, the 2nd and 3rd week of March, things begin to change, and if the winds are not too high, results are better, and somewhat easier. I do not guarantee fish during times that it is hard to get from one place to the other, because of weather conditions. Other than that I guarantee fish, and if it is my fault, and lots of others are getting their limits, 10 fish per person, I will refish your trip at a later date. Not many guides will do this, but I do not want people to come a long distance, and not get fish. I call assure you that striper are great to eat, after I get the red meat out, and your fish are all meat fillets, and ready to eat. I am getting lots of calls now, so if you want to set up fishing trip, get in touch with me, to insure the date you want. Low water conditions here, will not affect the fishing, other than us having to watch low water areas for structures. Striper are extremely good fighters, so get ready to hang on, as the challenge is on! I provide everything in the way of fishing, so all you have to do, is get ready for an outstanding day on the water, catching great fighting, and great eating fish. Look forward to hearing from you......."JD"
